Montverde Academy 9th grader Ciara "Pepper" Hopkins has had a fantastic freshman year both athletically and academically. Ciara is a focused and dedicated student with an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of over 4.0. and she has also excelled as a MVA track and field athlete. Ciara participated in the 2012 Florida Regional 1A State Meet, was named MVA Athlete of the Month for April, and most recently won the 15 – 19 year old Female division St. Anthony's Triathlon in St. Petersburg, Florida

Track And Field Eagles Compete at Florida 1A Track Meet

On April 26th, seven MVA student-track athletes traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in the 1A Florida State Track Meet held at the University of North Florida. According to Sue Tortoro, one of three MVA Varsity Track and Field Coaches, the girls 4x800m relay team comprised of Susan Rifai, Maya Rifai, Ciara Hopkins, Meghan Emling and Addison Adkins "ran well and showed great determination. In the end, they did not place in the top 8... but with the exception of Susan who will graduate, all of the members

MVA Excels at Track Regionals

Sue Tortora tells Montverde.net that the regional meet went well and that "the 4x800m girls team (Susan Rifai, Maya Rifai, Meghan Emling, Ciara Hopkins) placed 4th and will compete at state next week. Jair Minors won the 100m and placed 2nd in the 200m and will compete at state. Alex Anyaegbunam won the triple jump and will compete at state. Teddy DeWitt threw a personal best of 41' 1" in the shot put and placed 6th. Corinne Missi placed 6th in the shot put. The boys 4x800m relay

Track Coaches Sue Tortora, Troy Urquhart, and Jordan Foley are very proud to report to Montverde.net that their MVA Eagles Varsity Track and field team performed very well last Friday evening as Montverde Academy hosted the Florida 2012 Division 1A, District 7 Meet. Both the boys' and girls' teams placed 5th of 10 teams competing at this "well-run" track meet held on the grounds of the MVA sports soccer field/track complex. Eagles Compete Well at Trinity Prep Meet: Updated

Wednesday evening's meet at Trinity Prep yielded 14 personal bests and good feelings about how the Eagles stack up against the other district teams. Seventeen teams competed including several large public high schools from Orange County. The girls finished in 9th place while the boys finished 10th. According to MVA Track and Field Coach Sue Tortora, the meet is also "the last regular season track meet is the final opportunity to evaluate performances prior to assigning events for the district meet.
