MVA Swimming Program Makes Great Strides

Montverde Academy swimmers have grown into an exceptional team and last weekend were very effective at the Class 1A Region 2 swim meet - 7 out of 12 MVA swimmers qualified to regional finals and competed in individual events. Swimmers Lauren Robertson, Ben Buddendorf, Ben Gebauer, Joshua Monacelli, and Luiggi Reno, respectively, made it to the championship final and are now considered for States competition. Joshua Monacelli was superb in the 50 free and 100 fly – where he posted a time of 55.3 finishing 4th and placing him in the Top 20 rankings for Florida State Championships. In the 50 free, he posted a time of 23.2 and finished 11th overall.
As the youngest swimmer in competition, Luiggi Reno swam the 500 free and the 200 I.M- where he posted a time of 2:07.52 finishing 4th and qualified for 24th in the rankings for Florida State Championships. In the 500 free he posted a time of 5:07.38 finishing 7th. Ben Buddendorf swam the 500 free and posted a time of 5:01.76 finishing 5th overall. Ben Gebauer swam the 500 free and 200 very well and in the 500 he posted a time of 4:54.78 finishing 4th and placing him 20th in the rankings for States.
Lady Eagles Swimming Captain Lauren Robertson swam the 100 breast and 500 free – posting a 500 free time of 5:18.03 and finished 3rd -placing her 20th going into States. In the 100 breast she posted a time of 1:13.09 and finished 10th earning her a place on the Speedo Southern Zone Sectional Championship cut. Lara Limberger and Julia Buddendorf also competed well in their events and advanced to the Consolation Final. Most remarkable was the fact that the MVA Swim Team had the smallest numbers of athletes competing, yet with over-all points combined, the men placed 5th out of 28 teams earning 145 points and the Girl's placed 10th out of 26 teams earning 86 points with new team records being set.
