Montverde Academy will compete in its first meet as a varsity swim team this afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont according to Mike Potempa, Director of Athletics. “Dr. Kesselring and I are happy to announce that we will have a boys and girls varsity swim team for the 2011-12 academic year,” said Potempa. “We have a large number of students who swim competitively outside of the Academy, and it was our vision to bring them together and compete as a Montverde Academy varsity team.”
The MVA swim team will participate in the necessary number of meets in order to compete in FHSAA post season district, regional, and state series. Potempa added, “I am also extremely pleased to announce our new Head Coach for the 2011 varsity swim season, Rachel Glines, who has had extensive experience training competitive swimmers at every level throughout her coaching career thus far.”
Montverde Academy will compete this afternoon at 5:00pm against local rival East Ridge High School and then again on Thursday afternoon at 4:00pm at the Golden Triangle YMCA against Mt. Dora Bible and Tavares High School.
“We are looking forward to an exciting opportunity for our competitive swimmers already at Montverde Academy. I am aware that we have several talented student athletes and I would like to thank Dr. Kesselring for his work in allowing us to make this happen in such a short period of time,” Potempa added. “I am confident that Coach Glines will help our team maximize their true potential and help develop a foundation on which we can build for the future.”
