Montverde Academy is proud of our academic partnership with the internationally respected Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy and we likewise appreciate our students who balance their academic responsibilities with the mental and physical challenges of participating in the MVA external activity of GGGA junior-golf competitions. MVA 10th-grader and Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy golfer Johan Werge exemplifies such a student. Werge experienced a high-level of achievement this past November by winning (in a spectacular fashion that included a hole-in-one) the Optimist International Tournament of Champions held at Champions Gate International Golf Course in Orlando, Florida, and then he was consequently named Golfweek Magazine's "Player of the Week" after his decisive victory. According to official GGGA press release statements, Werge, a native of Mexico, "finished at 3-under-par 141 for a three-shot win in the boys 16-18 division. A hole-in-one on No. 17 in the first round helped him to a 2- under 70. He then followed with a 1-under 71 with three birdies on the International Golf Course at Champions Gate. Werge's win at the Optimist International Tournament of Champions marks the third consecutive year a student from the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy had come out on top."
Montverde Academy congratulates Johan on his fine accomplishments and wishes him continued success on and off the golf course in the months to come.
