On Monday, October 17th, the Montverde Academy Varsity Golf Team won in spectacular fashion with a four stroke victory in the 1A District Boys Golf Tournament at Metro West. In the first ever district golf title in school history, MVA’s Gonzalo Rubio shot a convincing one-under with a score of 71. Just as impressive as Rubio’s play was that of the entire Montverde Academy team as their collective effort will now take them into regional competition .
All in all, the team posted three rounds of 75 and overcame the competition of over ten different varsity golf teams that had been previously ranked throughout the season by the Orlando Sentinel. “I could not be more proud of my team. We competed at the highest level and defeated some of the toughest high school golf teams in the state, as well as demonstrating the true caliber of MVA students,” stated Head Coach Kyle Clapper in veneration of the extraordinary victory. With respect to team scores, MVA posted a 296 to Windermere Prep’s 300, Circle Christian’s 305, and Lake Highland’s 308.
