Autumn is soon approaching and with it the welcomed return of The Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational. The tournament is a Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series Event held in partnership with AJGA, GGGA and Montverde Academy. This year the event will convene at the picturesque Bella Collina Golf Course in Montverde, Florida on October 7 through 10, 2011. Boys and girls from ages 12-16 will be competing in a field size of 78 and playing 54 holes of standard stroke play.
Under the committed guidance of Tournament Director Jeremy Freyman, the MVA Junior All-Star Tournament is the finale in a series of contests earmarked for champions of the GGGA Junior All-Star Series. This year promises to be another well-played golf spectacular for young competitors from different cultural backgrounds that will allow these participants to demonstrate their golfing capabilities on a very challenging course. An AJGA Invitational event win is an excellent opportunity to attract the interests of national collegiate coaches and advance the visibility and golfing future of an individual player.
Last year’s Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational was enormously successful. The event was held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, Las Colinas Course, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida on October 8 through 11, 2010. The tournament was a great experience for all who participated and exemplified AJGA’s Mission Statement of being “dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.” San Diego native Hee Wook Choi won the girl’s division with exceptional shots and effective swing mechanics. Hayden Shieh of Fremont, California, won the boy’s division with an impressive 2-under-par 69. The 2010 MVA Invitational golfing field, like this year’s upcoming tournament, was comprised of boys and girls who had achieved success in other GGGA events throughout the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series season. The 2010 event included participants from 20 different states and countries as far away as Brazil and Mexico.
Along with The American Junior Golf Association, this year’s event will again be sponsored in partnership with Montverde Academy, an independent college preparatory school located in Montverde, Florida, that prepares students and student athletes from across the world with exceptional academics and the opportunity to participate in nationally ranked athletic programs. Additional support is provided from the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy golf training program located in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. GGGA was initiated as an official partner with AJGA in 2009 and has partnered in cooperation with AJGA in creating programs and aid-based curriculums, including the establishment of an endowment grant called the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) that provides monetary aid to young and junior players.
“The Montverde Invitational is a fantastic ending to the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-star series. You have the best players who performed the best throughout the series all together competing for a major championship on the junior level. To go along with the fact that the event is at an amazing course like Bella Collina, it doesn't get much better than that,” commented William Perry, Marketing Manager of the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy.
This year’s tournament particulars were collaboratively designed to help facilitate the needs of the junior competitors in efficient ways. This will allow golfers to sign up for starting hole assignments with AJGA staff members on the practice putting green from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., tee times scheduled for 8:30 a.m.to 10:30 a.m. from tees #1 and #10, and complimentary green fees for players walking their rounds. As with last year, AJGA will host a “Dinner of Champions” for the Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational at Mission Inn Resort & Club on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 6 p.m. All participants are also invited to the dinner courtesy of Montverde Academy. At this dinner, AJGA will acknowledge 2011 Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Team members and recognize previous achievements from this year’s ten different Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star events. Bella Collina will also be the location of the competition’s cook-out after the second round at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011. The phenomenally well maintained golf course of Bella Collina promises to be an added bonus for the competitive field of adept, international juniors competing to make their mark on the history of the Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational.
