With a great season formed from impressive coaching and the immense hearts, skills, and strenuous focus demonstrated by our Eagle runners, MVA soared beyond district competition for the first time in many years and on Saturday, November 12th, 2011, competed in the FHSAA 1A Region 2 Meet. The girls were ranked 10th going into competition. Freshman Ciara Hopkins ran 21:39 and placed 23rd while Maya Rifai and Tanner Dotson concluded their season with a personal-record time at 22:18 helping our lady Eagles place 9th in inclusive team scoring with an average time of 22:37. The MVA boys' runners entered competition ranked 12th as Sophomore Conner Bergin finished with a time of 19:31 despite an injury that hampered him towards season's end. Senior Tyler Gehr cracked the 20-minute mark and ran a personal-best time of 19:37 helping his team to finish 11th with an over-all team average scoring time of 20:56. Coach Troy Urquhart was delighted with his team's efforts remarking, "I'm pleased with the progress we've made with both teams this year, and I'm encouraged by the promise we have for the future. We have a great base established for the upcoming outdoor track season, and we'll graduate only one runner this year from our girls team, so we're looking forward to starting next year with a hardworking group of talented runners."
