Montverde Cross Country Cuts Time at Winter Springs

On Saturday, September 24, the Montverde Cross Country team traveled to Winter Springs to compete in the Overbay-Monte Carlo Invitational at Central Winds Park.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE With freshman standout Ciara Hopkins out of town, the girls Cross Country team was led by senior captain Susan Rifai, who ran a season's best time of 24:48, just 14 seconds behind the personal record she set at last year's District Meet. Seventh grader Tanner Dotson was close behind, cutting over three minutes off her time from last week to finish with a new personal record of 24:51. Sixth grader Addison Adkins dropped over one hundred seconds from her previous best to run 25:19. Eighth grader Katie Young also set a new personal record, cutting more than two minutes off her best time to finish at 25:22, as did eighth grader Maya Rifai, who cut over ninety seconds from her personal best to finish at 25:59. Rounding out the team this week were eighth grader Parinda Dechathipat, who made her Cross Country debut with a time of 26:37, and junior Janki Patel, who ran a season's best time of 34:06.

The boys team was led by sophomore Conner Bergin, who cut over thirty seconds from his personal best to finish in 19:12. Senior Tyler Gehr, who dropped nineteen seconds from his personal best to finish in 21:16, was followed closely by senior Binh Nguyen, who also set a personal best with a finish of 21:58. Junior Brandon Pownall and senior Brian Donnelly also both set personal records, with Pownall cutting almost ninety seconds at 24:51 and Donnelly improving over three minutes at 28:05. Senior Joon Ho Suh fought through an illness to finish in 25:02, and junior Sang-Bin Park ran his first Cross Country meet at 22:31.

Overall, the top five boys finishers cut nearly two and a half minutes from their total time this week, and the top five girls finishers cut over 8 minutes from their total time.

The team will travel to Titusville on Saturday, October 1, for the flrunners.com Invitational 12 presented by Nike.
