Montverde Cross Country Announces Roster

The girls team is led by freshman Ciara Hopkins, who enters the season ranked 14th in the state for division 1A by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association. Two years ago, Hopkins finished 28th in the 1A State Meet. This year, Hopkins is aiming for the State Meet and to break the school record of 19:22.80 she set last year at the Hagerty Invitational.

This year, Hopkins says that what’s most important is the team’s commitment to work hard in practice all season: “The will to succeed is required,” she says, but “the will to prepare is essential.”

The team is also looking for great things this season from sophomore Conner Bergin, who started his running career last spring running 5:10.88 in the 1600m. Bergin has his sights set on running the 5000m under 17:30 this season, and he hopes to see the boys team advance to the Regional Meet this season. He spent the summer training and says that to make it to Regionals, “we all need to keep pushing ourselves.”
