ESPN Rise National Freshman of the Year, Dakari Johnson, now a Sophomore at Montverde Academy, has been identified among the nation’s best basketball players according to Montverde Academy Head Coach Kevin Boyle.  Johnson, who was also a member of the 2010 USA Basketball Developmental National Team, will travel to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to participate in a mini-camp to prepare for the Under-17 World Games in Lithuania during the summer of 2012.  “We are excited that Dakari has been identified among the nation’s best by USA basketball,” Boyle commented.  “The camp in Colorado Springs will be a great experience for him and Montverde Academy moving forward as he will be able to compete against the best players in the country for his age group.”  Johnson has a rich family tradition of high level basketball as both his mother and grandfather played at Long Island University, his father played at St. Francis College, and his uncle was a standout at Stony Brook University.  “Dakari definitely has a presence about him on campus and on the court,” said Mike Potempa, Director of Athletics. “Not only is he an exceptional basketball player, but his demeanor off the court is what impresses me the most.  His positive attitude is exactly what we expect out of our student athletes here at Montverde Academy.”

Johnson will head to the Olympic Training Center October 14-17, 2011, for a comprehensive basketball camp to identify the athletes who will represent the United States in their quest to defend the Gold medal at the World Games.  For further updates on the Montverde Academy basketball program, please stay connected to www.montverde.net.
