Montverde Academy Boys' Varsity Baseball is back is swing with abundant talent and an enthusiastic new season. Last Friday night, the MVA Boys' Baseball team played Auburndale High School in game 1 of a preseason tournament held at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. Due to rain conditions, the game was called before completion and our Eagles tied their opponent 3-3. MVA's Alexis Rivera and Sergio Rodriguez had strong games at the plate and from the mound Jay Ciuro pitched a scoreless inning and MVA 10th grader Bailey Ward also threw 3 strong innings. In game 2 and final game of the tournament on Saturday night, MVA beat Lakeland High School by the score of 4-3 in 8 innings. This was an impressive win for our Eagles considering Lakeland's overall talent and the fact their 2011 team was ranked nationally in the top 30 by season's end. Tim Layden, MVA Varsity Baseball Coach, tells Montverde.net, "There were key contributions at the plate by Alexis Rivera, Matt Rivera (no relation), Bryan Scheker and Walter Vives. The winning pitcher was Jay Ciuro who saw the mound again after an impressive outing the day before. The gap was bridged to him from starter Alexis Torres by Joshua Santos who gave us 3 strong innings."
Our Montverde Academy Boys' Varsity Baseball Eagles are back in action today, Tuesday, February, 14, 2012, searching for victory number two at Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, Florida. Go Eagles!!
