The 2012 Montverde Academy Varsity Boys' Baseball Team begins its new season on Friday, February 10, 2012, against Auburndale High School at 7:00 p.m. on the home field of Lakeland High School. Under the expert direction of 2nd year head Head-Coach Tim Layden and his Assistant-Coaches Victor Rivera, Jerry Matos, and Kevin Otero, the Eagles Varsity Boys' Baseball team is once again on the pathway to a successful season. MVA is commanded by a number of resilient senior classmen that include outfielder Alexis Rivera, middle infielders Rey Perez and Omar Prieto, and the effective pitching of Joshua Santos and Alexis Torres. Junior pitcher Angel Alicea, along with junior catchers Sergio Rodriguez, Luis Ciuro, and Walter Vives and sophomore Bailey Ward are all projected to play important roles in MVA's 2012 season. Another significant factor to the teams' success will be the level of highly skillful Eagles' infielders and outfielders. Coach Layden tells Montverde.net, "Shortstop Rey Perez and second basemen Omar Prieto will defend the middle of the diamond and look to sit atop the lineup this spring. The corners will be held down by juniors Matt Rivera and Erik Escobedo who bring both speed and a solid bat to the lineup. The outfield will consist of senior centerfielder Alexis Torres flanked by and outstanding combination of underclassmen - junior Walter Vives, sophomore Austin Bustamante and freshman Bryan Scheker, Julian Quintana, and Justin Holland."
