Parents Assoc. Meeting Minutes: Dec. 2011

PA Meeting for 12/2/2011

Board Members present: Cheryl McDonnell, Judy Newlin, Lora Feingold, Jennifer Cunningham, Heather Johnson, Brenda Boggs, Cindy Rosario

At 8:30 Cheryl welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave Donia Richards her plaque for Volunteer of the Month of November.

Next, Heather Johnson updated us on the Stocking Stuffer collection progress. At this time, we still need more cups o noodles, approximately 200 of them. Sample size toiletries, candies, and anything else you think would make good stuffers are still needed as well. If you can help, there is still time to donate. Just drop off your donations in car line on Wed. 12/7 or bring them to the stuffing party on Fri. 12/9. Heather extended a BIG Thank You to everyone for their contributions and said that this year would be the best year yet!

This year's LS Change Challenge was our most successful ever raising over $1600 for the Faith Neighborhood Center. The Purple team was victorious, raising roughly $200 more than the Yellow team. Way to go kids! They will celebrate their win with a pizza party....YUM!!

Katie Mendoza asked for help for an hour after the meeting to finish the holiday decorating. Also she needs help on Tues. 12/6 at 7:45 at the Fine Arts Building to decorate the tree and fluff the student trees. The take down date has been changed to Mon. 1/9/2012. Katie really needs help with this, so if you can help, just show up any time and start removing things.

The LS is collecting shoes to give to foster kids in the Lake county area starting 12/5 thru 12/9. Students are asked to bring in a pair of new shoes in their size or larger with a gift receipt if possible. Shopping at payless for the shoes will guarantee that the right sizes are received, as they will exchange any of 'their' shoes without a receipt. There is a great need for men's and women's shoes sizes 7-11.

We will be hosting a Cookie Depot for the MS and US students during final exams 12/13 thru 12/15. We need parents to bring in home made or store bought cookies, bagels, muffins, and fruits for the PA volunteers to set up in the student center for the kids to have between tests. There was a sign up sheet at the meeting for those who wanted to volunteer to stay in the student center and replenish the snacks and keep the area clean.

Cheryl informed us that we will in fact be having a Family Day event on 3/31 at MVA. We have a $5000 budget and need ideas!! We will be signing up volunteers in January.

Kathy Wiebe shared that for only $10 you could enjoy the last 1 hour performance of A Christmas Carol on Fri. 12/2 at 8PM. She wanted us to thank LS mom Nicole Scott for painting an incredible mural. Kathy also mentioned that the spring performance would be Seussical the Musical. For the first time they are talking about having a matinee show to bring in seniors from nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the area.

For all the tireless hours of painting, hunting down goose, obtaining costumes and whatever else was needed Kathy Wiebe (and her family) were awarded Volunteer of the Month of December. She received a plaque, gift bag and a huge Thank You!

Cheryl drew raffle tickets and gift bags were given away to 5 lucky moms. There was a reminder that there is a full day of school on 12/15 and the break begins on 12/16.

At approximately 9:05 Cheryl closed the meeting and announced that the next PA Meeting will be 1/13/2012.
